OT Newsletter - things you "ought" to do

Features this week

Word 2003's Reading View

One of the benefits of Word 2003 is the "Reading View." You can access this feature by selecting View, Reading Layout or by clicking on the "Read" icon on the Standard toolbar. This option makes it easier to read your documents on the screen. This view includes wider margins, multiple pages on the screen (space permitting), a larger font size, etc. The document's pages are sized to fit your screen without scrolling.

The resulting toolbar (Reading Mode) includes choices designed for reading-related activities. For example, using the thumbnail view, you can select the page you want to view. Markup tools are available in the reading view, and the Document Map button helps you quickly move to various parts of your document. You can still edit text and zoom to whatever level you prefer. As you do this, the line wrap changes to suit.

Check out this feature in Word 2003. It might be just the view you've been looking for!

Firefox

What is "Firefox?" It's a Web browser that many feel is a viable alternative to Microsoft's Internet Explorer. It is free, less susceptible to security vulnerabilities, and loaded with cool features. (http://www.mozilla.org/)

One of the cool features is "tabbed browsing." This revolutionary technology, shared by all of the new, major players in the Web browsing game, allows you to open many Web pages at once in the same browser window. Then, each site is accessed by a tab.

Read the article at this Web site, http://ptech.wsj.com/archive/ptech-20041230.html, for more details about this product. Another review at http://www.aarp.org/learntech/computers/software/firefox_10.html provides more information about actually using Firefox.
